Our quick journey from innovation novices through to a fully embedded culture of innovation is now at an end
So there you have it; our quick journey from innovation novices through to a fully embedded culture of innovation is now at an end. Along the way we’ve taken in a range of concepts including communication, design, team selection and cohesiveness. But throughout these posts, as throughout the book itself, the single uniting factor is leadership.
Whether from the top team, from leaders at all levels of the organisation, and even from i-agents, (those key influencers who may or may not have the word ‘leader’ in their job title but who can nevertheless determine whether a project succeeds or fails); it is leadership which will determine whether an organisation fully embeds a culture of innovation or leaves itself open to being disrupted by more adaptable, collaborative and insightful organisations.
So the challenge for leaders is to understand and assimilate innovation ideals into your own belief and behaviour set and then promote those same ideals throughout the organisation. At the end of the day culture change is not about the shiny new values on the lobby wall, it is about what you do with them, your actual actions and behaviour in order to make the innovation vision come alive.
Building a Culture of Innovation is being published by Kogan Page on 3rd December and is now available for pre-order.
