Unless the top team fully engages with the innovation ideal and is prepared to promote it through their actions, expectations and leadership then there is little chance of a culture of innovation taking hold throughout the organisation.

Innovation – it’s a question of leadership!

Well okay, building a culture of innovation does require more than simply leadership, but unless the top team fully engages with the innovation ideal and is prepared to promote it through their actions, expectations and leadership then there is little chance of a culture of innovation taking hold throughout the organisation.

Countless studies have shown how organisational leaders acknowledge that creating a culture of innovation within their organisations is a priority if they are to create game changing and long-lasting results; but studies have also shown that there is less certainty on the way in which organisations need to change in order to embed innovation. So when Cris Beswick, Derek Bishop and Jo Geraghty sat down to map out their latest book, they were convinced that not only should the book contain a roadmap for instilling a culture of innovation but that they should also weave a strong thread of leadership throughout the book.

Commenting on the importance of leadership in building and maintaining a culture of innovation, Derek Bishop said “From the executive team, through to management and even to those key influencers within an organisation who have no title but can make or break a culture; successfully building a culture of innovation relies on strong innovation leadership.”

Derek has over twenty years’ experience of leading people and delivering business results in high volume and complex environments. As an expert on culture change, leadership development and customer experience he is considered one of the leading thinkers on creating high-performance cultures, enabling the turnaround of under-performing businesses and shaping new start-ups for corporates. He is a strong believer in the importance of leadership not only in the top team but throughout the organisation and has commented that “Middle managers, team leaders and leaders without a title are increasingly being seen as the gatekeepers to the culture and to business success.”

Building a Culture of Innovation is being published by Kogan Page on 3rd December and is now available for pre-order.
