The greatest leaders can inspire a generation and see their influence spread far beyond the confines of their own workplace surroundings
We know that great leadership creates great workplaces but the greatest leaders can inspire a generation and see their influence spread far beyond the confines of their own workplace surroundings.
As we write UK astronaut Tim Peake is preparing to return to earth from his six month mission to the International Space Station. Whilst there he has tested gourmet foods, run the London marathon and undertaken a host of scientific experiments. But more than that, his journey into space has reignited our interest in looking beyond the confines of our immediate surroundings and opened up doorways that had seemed closed.
The coverage of his time in space, the pictures he has tweeted, the interactions he has had with schools and the media have inspired a vision which no doubt will encourage others to aspire to follow in his footsteps. He has found his voice and in doing so has modelled the way for others to follow.
Leadership takes many forms and we don’t all have to go to such heights to inspire others. But regardless of whether we have the ‘name on the door’ or we are just starting out we can all aspire to make our leadership journey one of influence and inspiration.
