Building a Culture of Innovation: Innovation Strategy and Innovation Maturity

“A culture of innovation can be a company’s primary source of competitive advantage, and can pay off steadily over the years” – Stephen Shapiro

Who is it suited for?
This course is suitable for organisational leaders including new and developing leaders who are looking to build an understanding of the way in which innovation strategy and an understanding of innovation maturity can help them to set their organisation on an innovation pathway.  The course is also recommended to be rolled out to innovation teams as part of the engagement strategy for those seeking to deliver innovation culture change.

What does it cover?
This course starts by exploring the cultural assessment diagram, seeking to build an understanding of the way in which leadership, management, people and external influences can drive or inhibit change. It then moves on to build an understanding of innovation maturity.  Along the way the course will look to develop an appreciation of:

  • How innovation maturity can vary across departments or divisions
  • The differences between incremental, differentiated and radical innovation
  • Creating an innovation mix for long-term sustainable innovation
  • Building organisation-wide clarity around the innovation strategy, vision, values & competencies.

Why focus on innovation strategy and maturity?
Building a culture of innovation is increasingly being seen by business leaders across the globe as a key deliverer of differentiated customer experiences and solutions. Innovation does not happen overnight, particularly if an organisation’s culture isn’t flourishing. A detailed and invasive understanding of one’s own culture will establish the building blocks of innovation, allowing it to take root. Innovation is the solution, and culture cognizance is the foundation.

Further development?
This is one of the core innovation modules which build on some of the concepts and ideas outlined in ‘Building a culture of innovation: a practical framework for placing innovation at the core of your business.’ Although there is some crossover with areas such as culture change, employee engagement and leadership, the modules within this section are aligned specifically with the innovation culture ideal. This course can be taken as a stand-alone module or combined with other innovation modules including:

  • Building a Culture of Innovation: one day overview
  • Leading for innovation
  • Taking Your People on the Innovation Journey
  • Understanding the Next Generation Organisation

Depending on the nature of their role, attendees may also wish to explore other concepts offered by The Culture Consultancy School including leadership, culture change and employee engagement.
