Leading culture change
Who is it suited for?
This course is suitable for anyone who is tasked with reviewing, developing and managing culture change. This includes organisational leaders, HR leaders, change agents.
What does it cover? This course will explore the internal and external factors which influence culture change including:
- the challenges of working with legacy systems
- anticipating and overcoming barriers to change
- the importance of introducing change in a structured way
Not only does this course explore the importance of leaders aligning with the strategy, it examines the part which leaders at all levels throughout an organisation have to play in introducing, managing and leading change. This includes an introduction to the Leadership Practices InventoryTM (LPI) as a means of assessing and developing leadership skills. As such, this course can also be useful for those who are starting out on their leadership journey and who would benefit from gaining a greater insight into the five practices of great leaders.
The role of HR in leading change is also explored, examining areas such as changing expectations, communication, hiring for cultural fit, overcoming personal barriers to change as well as looking at areas such as changing contracts, employee appraisals and metrics. Together these help to develop an understanding of the way in which people react to change; a theme which is developed further in the ‘engaging your people in culture change’ module.
Why focus on leading culture change?
As we commented in ‘Building a Culture of Innovation’ if it’s not on the top table it won’t be in the culture. Identifying the need for a culture shift either to better react to external factors or to strengthen the chance of success in a merger or acquisition is only the start. Without strong leadership, change won’t happen. As a leader you will be given tools to amplify your current strengths married with new skills to lead and implement culture alignment from top to bottom.
